Spring Cleaning

For several months now, Gretch and I have had a running list of things to do in regards to Simply Spotless. Near the top of the list has been reorganising our "office space" at Illini Plaza. I put that in quotes only because the office we are leasing is approximately 90 square feet and is used as a storage room for all of the company's equipment and chemicals.

Despite the small size, it is a rather nice place to keep things, and is considerably better than the garage that was formerly used. For one, it is in a temperature-controlled environment, so there are no worries about chemicals freezing in the winter or over-heating in the summer. For another, it provides a convenient central point to meet, hold meetings, and not have to worry about waking neighbours in the middle of the night.

Unfortunately, the way the equipment and chemicals had been stored did not utilise the space very well. Not for a large closet of these dimensions (about 10 x 9 feet). So we have had plans to get new storage shelves and containers and replace all the old stuff. On Monday evening we finally got started by doing some serious shopping at Lowe's (we had a coupon).

After getting the new shelves, wall holders, and large containers, we loaded up the car and went over on Tuesday morning. Four hours later, we were done! We practically filled a dumpster with the accumulated junk that was broken, unused, or simply unuseable (such as fittings for old vacuums we no longer have). We hung several of the brooms, mops, and such on the walls, put up a shiny new shelf that holds all of our chemicals, placed the clean rags in a more efficient container, and condensed of small odds and ends that we do need into six drawers (down from eight).

The result is a beautiful, neat, organised office. I meant to take a picture. I will do that tomorrow and upload it later.

It may not quite be Spring yet, but we definitely did some great Spring cleaning!
